Porn star Stormy Daniels files defamation suit against Trump

Porn star Stormy Daniels has filed a defamation lawsuit against US President Donald Trump over for calling her a liar, her attorney said on Monday.

The adult film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, went public several months ago with details of an alleged affair she had with the president.

The defamation suit, filed in New York, refers to comments made by Trump in a tweet about a composite sketch of a man Daniels says threatened her to keep quiet about the affair.

Trump tweeted that the sketch was of a “non-existent man” and Clifford’s claims were a “total con job.”

The suit filed by lawyer Michael Avenatti contends that Trump’s “false, disparaging statement” subjected Daniels to economic harm, reputational damage and threats of violence.

Daniels is seeking a minimum of 75,000 dollars in damages as well as a jury trial.

The new case escalates the legal battle between the adult film star and the president, after her original lawsuit was put on hold by a judge on Friday while Trump lawyer Michael Cohen faces a separate criminal investigation.

Daniels filed the suit in an attempt to void an agreement under which she was paid 130,000 dollars shortly before the 2016 presidential election. She says it was hush money to keep the affair quiet.

Cohen has acknowledged making the payment but said he paid it from his own pocket without Trump’s knowledge.

The White House denies that Trump had any sexual relationship with Daniels.

Trump is also facing a defamation lawsuit from Summer Zervos, a former contestant on “The Apprentice” who accused him of sexual harassment.

Zervos filed the suit after he dismissed her claims as lies.
