Lucien Favre has been appointed new coach of Borussia Dortmund on a two-year contract, the Bundesliga club have said.
Favre, 60, moves to Dortmund from French Ligue 1 side Nice but has extensive Bundesliga experience with Hertha Berlin and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Dortmund replaces Peter Stoeger, who himself was appointed on a short-term contract last season following the dismissal of Peter Bosz early in the campaign. The former Cologne boss did not do enough to retain his post despite leading the team into the Champions League with a fourth-place Bundesliga finish.
“The appointment of Lucien Favre as coach is an important aspect of our fresh sporting start this summer,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said.
