Local authorities report said; So far 51 people have been confirmed dead in a flood that hit part of the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal in the Southeastern region of South Africa
Lennox Mabaso told reporters that the flooding that started on Monday, a heavy rainfall that leads to mudslides in several towns in Durban known as the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal
“Amanzimtoti, Mariannhill, and Chatsworth are the area most affected by the flood” Mabaso, who works for the provincial cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department, said, adding that that the South Africa Weather Service has warned there could be a heavier downpour in the coming days.
Makeshift Shelters and food has been put in place for displaced individuals, State-owned broadcasters SABC reports that over 1000 people are displaced
“We are assisting them to cope with the tragedy through counselling and other forms of support like helping to identify their relatives that have passed on” SABC reported
